May 2006 - The old astro has gone…the new astro is on the way! Last Saturday and Sunday we managed to lift and roll the old astro pitch ready for collection and disposal this week. This was a massive effort by all concerned that will save the club a huge amount of money.
There was no doubt that it was really hard work and at times it did seem a daunting task, but with great planning from Gary Fisher and Jerry Caldwell and the support of over sixty members who gave up at least one day to help out – the job got finished on time.
Planning permission for the new floodlights and fencing has been granted and everything is now clear for the contractors to arrive on Monday 8th May and begin work on the new sand-dressed pitch which should be completed sometime in mid July. Work on refurbishing our second artificial turf pitch is planned to take place at the same time and we confidently expect to have two brand new artificial turf pitches in place for the new winter season in September 2006.
