7 April 2006 - Timperley Sports Club – Sports Club of the Year!! Following the announcement in February that we had won the Trafford Sports Club of the year award, we have now become... The Greater Manchester Sports Club of the Year. Following success at the Trafford awards, all ten Greater Manchester borough winners went forward to a huge event at the City of Manchester Stadium. Out of literally thousands of sports clubs (of all sizes and types) from across the region, Timperley won the top award of the night. Richard Saunders, Chief Executive of the Greater Manchester Sports Partnership said: All of the award winners, show an outstanding contribution to the many different facets of community sport. Without people like this, grassroots sport would not exist, and in the wake of the Olympic 2012 decision, community sport is becoming increasingly more important’. Timperley is now a club with a huge role and strong reputation in the local community. Many, many hours of volunteers' hard work is channelled each week into junior coaching programmes, working with schools and other youth groups. During the ceremony, we were commended for a number of achievements throughout 2005. High on that list was the fact that Sport England awarded us three national Clubmark awards for Cricket, Hockey and Lacrosse during the year. Sport England themselves have described this as 'unique' across England and they have subsequently invited Timperley to join a national pilot group of multi-sport clubs who will advise Sport England on best practice that can be passed on to others. Accepting the award on behalf of the Club, Colm O’Neill (Chairman) said in response: ‘We have been informed by Sport England that we are the only club in the country to have achieved full Clubmark accreditation in all of our three sports (Cricket, Hockey and Lacrosse). That alone made 2005 a fantastic year. Winning the Trafford award was a real honour, but going on to win at Greater Manchester level is something else. Over 150 people regularly volunteer their time in coaching, team and match administration and helping out at fundraising events. They should all be thanked for all their hard work and commitment over many, many years, not just the last twelve months. That hard work means that achievements such as this are possible and are only the start of what we can do together. Thanks to everyone at the club for all your hard work.
