Throw Back Thursday....find out what our members were doing back on 30th April 2006

Shelagh Everett30 Apr - 17:45

As we're just about to start another big project, take a look back at member self help back in the day with the 2006 relaying of the pitches!

It was twenty years ago today…!

over the past 35 years the Club has always had some form of project in the planning or delviery stage as we work to improve our facilities for members and teh local community.

We're on the 'eve' of starting our next big project - an extension to the clubhouse and refurbishment of bar and function room, and more news of that soon as we finalsie the contractual details and mobilisation plan to start very soon!

But let's get back to 20 years ago today! Here's the story and see if you recognise any club stalwards in the photos!

On 30th April 2006, around 30 + members (and two dogs!) of Timperley Hockey club teamed up and spent a weekend removing the old astro carpet from the old bone shaker (now the Blue Pitch) and the Green Pitch. (more members came and went over the weekend and missed the team photo!)

Both pitches were entirely was cut up in to predetermined lengths, rolled, tied and loaded onto pallets ready for resale to local golf clubs who were looking to install astroturf trolley/pathways between holes. Col Taylor managed to flog the lot to about 11 golf courses in the North west including Sale, Haworth, Knott End and Siloth on Solway - an early form of upcycling! Things have moved on these days and the last two pitch repalcement have gone to be recycled.

The weekends work saved about £18,000 in project costs and raised a similar sum through sales of the old carpet and helped make possible replacing both pitches in 2006, when we also enlarged and improved the Blue Pitch to make it the No 1 pitch!

Look out for more news ove the next few weeks on teh clubhouse extension and how to get involved and support this next exciting phase of improving the club for our memebrs and the community. Download our last Club Development Update from March is you've not seen it yet
