We are saddened to announce the passing of former hockey and cricket member Simon Graveney

Through the 1990s in particular Simon was ever present in anything at our club. He was proud to be a hockey and cricket member and captain.

It is with great sadness we share the news of the passing of former hockey and cricket member Simon Graveney.

Simon came to Hockey later than most, in fact he joined to play social
'veterans hockey' as it was then called. After years of playing Rugby.
Cricket and Golf he clearly saw the attractions of a quick hour whacking a
ball around on a piece of grass followed by several hours talking about it.
He kept his own personal beer tankard behind the bar in the old shed and for
exercise, would walk to the club most evenings with his dog, 'Prince' just
to make sure it wasn't going rusty.

Through the 1990s in particular Simon was ever present in anything at our
club. He was proud to be a 6th XI Captain for four seasons between 1991 and
1995 and joined touring teams to La Baule in France and Barbados. Later he
moved from Timperley to deepest Cheshire and his playing days were over,
although he continued to be connected and maintained his monthly 300 club
contribution to this day.

Anyone who was part of the club back then will have fond memories of Simon and whilst he himself would be first to acknowledge that whilst Hockey was probably not his natural sport, he'd always say that Timperley was his club.

Simon was also a Timperley Cricketer and was captain of the 4th XI for a couple of seasons in the mid 1990's. He also turned his hand to cricket scoring too.

Our thoughts are with his partner Sue, children Paul and Sarah and Sue's
daughter, our own Ana Richards.

RIP Simon for all your former team mates and friends at Timperley
